SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) has some primary advantages such as synchronous multiplexing, standard optical interface and strong network management compared with PDH(Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy). As soon as SDH appeared, it obtains broad applications in many fields including WAN(Wide Area Network), LAN(Local Area Network) and MAN(Metropolitan Area Network). SDH will intend to be multi-service capability, intelligence and high bit rate to obtain more and more applications in several years.The main content of this dissertation expounds the design of extracting AU4/VC4 payload from STM-16 frame and its implement of the hardware and software. The dissertation first analyses the technological parameters, then puts forward an implement plan and presents the process of contriviance based on the plan in detail after intact introducing the basic knowledge about SDH.This dissertation focuses on the process of analysis and design. For delated to so much techno-detail and span, the content is arranged to go through with strict design process. According to the author's labor, this dissertation expounds from three sides in detail: hardware design of AU4/VC4 payload extracting module, BSP(Board Support Package) for CPU mainboard and relative driver design based on uClinux operation system environment. About ColdFire processor andμClinux operation system per se, this dissertation has no much space to introduce it, and only gives a correlative reference.In addition, this dissertation also depicts the process of debug and test because of their importance especially for test which should be taken attention to at the beginning of process of design. This dissertation mostly describes in detail the Debug and Test process including building test environment, steps of test and test result analysis.
