HJ-1C satellite is one of the HJ-1 small satellites, which are developed and launched by our country. HJ-1C satellite loads an S-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system. Being differ from other spaceborne remote sensors on our country's satellites, the S-band SAR has own characteristics and operation manner. Therefore, to test HJ-1C satellite on-orbit will be valuable for not only satellite data's processing and applications, but also lunching other our country's similar satellites in the future. This is one of the important works of Demonstration Center for Spaceborne Remote Sensing (DCSRS) of China.This dissertation focuses on the test on-orbit HJ-1C small satellite and its SAR images, which includes the following parts:1. The geometric characteristics of the SAR remote sensor and its images are evaluated, which includes evaluations of the satellite poses, adjustments of the orbit parameters, and geometric corrections of the SAR images.2. The radiant characteristics of the SAR images are evaluated, which includes relative calibrations and absolute calibrations of the SAR images, corrections of the antenna patterns, and ratio transforms and contrast adjustments of the SAR images.3. In addition, some technical guidelines for the evaluations of the SAR image qualities are proposed, and the some applied potentials of the SAR images obtained from HJ-1C small satellite are also analyzed in brief.The achievements in this dissertation can be summarized as follow. Based on the characteristics and performance parameters of HJ-1C small satellite and its SAR remote sensor, the novel task, to propose the on-orbit test contents and methods for the SAR images, is explored for the first time. This works should be helpful to establish the system of the on-orbit test contents and methods for our country's HJ-1C small satellites.
