China's English-language media have entered an unprecedented era of development ever since the country enforced its opening up policy in the beginning of 1980s. They have developed at an even faster pace since the 21st century — not only in an accumulative way, but also have showed some epochal trends. China's first 24-hour English TV channel - CCTV-9 was on air on Sept. 25, 2000, introducing a brand new chapter to the development history of China's English-language TV media. Other media like radio, newspaper and internet have also worked on various new forms of cooperation. In May 2003, CCTV-9 conducted a large-scale reform, which brought a premier of foreign anchors' faces on China's English TV screen. In January 2004, China Daily also took on an all-round reform, which resulted in a considerable increase in financial report and the in-depth report. All these dynamics show that China's English-language media are heading to a more realistic way of development. This paper aims to find their development principle and the trends of development through analyzing their dynamics and problems in the new century. The paper firstly analyses the environmental factors as the international conditions in politics, economy and culture, and the development of international media, which have brought new challenges for China's English-language media; then taking CCTV-9 as the example, the paper analyses the present problems and developments of China's English-media in the new century; finally it discusses three development trends of China's English-language media.
