Abstract/Summary:
Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) is an interdiscipline which is related to artificial intelligence, computer science, cognitive science, education and psychology, the purpose of ITS research lies at providing student optimum teaching by means of using computer programs to simulate excellent human teachers, it has great significance to reducing training and education costs and to improving teaching and study. There is great prospect of ITS application to primary education, secondary education and higher education.Domain knowledge and teaching schedule are main parts of ITS, this thesis describes the research on knowledge base and course schedule. In knowledge base,descriptive knowledge is represented with frame, procedure knowledge with rule, relationship between knowledge with semantic network, which solve the problem of multi-category knowledge representation in ITS, and enhance the capacity of domain knowledge base; By the techniques of multi-knowledge package and two level index to organize the base, it is easy to create, maintain, modify and query the base; Also, by separating the mechanics of knowledge utilization from that of management, the change of base structure will not cause great change of knowledge utilization mechanics. In the course schedule, this thesis proposes an implementation of adaptive teaching schedule, through automatically selecting knowledge unit, sorting teaching sequence and adjusting knowledge unit queue according to the student's behavior, the instructional procedure is more adaptive, and the performance is improved.In the light of teaching the same knowledge unit in different ways for different students, this thesis suggests teaching operation methods by using one operation representing one teaching action, it makes instruction more effective through activating different operations for different students. This thesis also proposes inferring mechanism, and designs an inference engine, the inference engine runs according to the rules input to it.The work of this thesis is a part of junior chemistry intelligent tutoring system. The junior chemistry knowledge base, the main algorithm in course schedule and the inference engine have been implemented by using MSVC development kit.
