In recent years, the paper machines develop towards high-speed, large-scale and highly efficient direction, which brings high requirements for speed-chain control, tension control, load-balance control etc. in the Electric Drive Control Systems (EDCS) of paper machines. Because the mechanical line-shaft control mode hardly provides quick response for the three requirements mentioned above, it has been replaced by the section-drive control mode. Meanwhile, AC speed regulation systems have been applied widely in the paper industry because of its better performance and less maintenance. Nowadays, Chinese researches in these areas have lagged behind and have become bottleneck for the development of Chinese paper machinery. Therefore, the research on high-powered EDCS of paper machines has an important significance for the development of Chinese paper industry.Firstly, on the basis of deeply discussing the relevant problems about EDCS of paper machines, this article pointed out the keys and difficulties when people design EDCS of high-speed paper machine, the requirements that paper machines demand for EDCS, the structure that multi-motor sync-drives of paper machines should have and the control mode that transducers should have.Secondly, basing on PROFIBUS technology, this thesis designed a hierarchical distributed control system for EDCS of 2730/500 Fourdrinier with Programmable Computer Controller (PCC) B&R 2005.Thirdly, aiming at the realization of EDCS, this thesis had done the following work. (1) The thesis realized communications between PCCs, PCC and Industrial Computer, PCC and Control Panel and gave out the main frame of programs. (2) Many kinds of control methods about speed-chain control, tension control and load-balance control were analyzed and researched separately. On these bases, the thesis picked out the better digital speed-chain control, direct tension control, load-banlance control based on torque control and designed their software. (3) The thesis realized communication between PCC and WINCC by using OPC, and gave out the detail how to design a visual monitor system for EDCS of paper machine.
