Nowadays, the percentage of application of Linux in embedded system isn't very big, many developers are hesitating, but many predictive reports say that Linux will be the most widely used embedded OS.Though during the process of remaking general Linux to embedded OS will encounter many setbacks, but the trend isn't changed.Based on the working flow in embedded developing, this thesis, firstly, complete many study about the degree of Linux support with the hardware used in embedded application, next, investigate every aspects about construct the system of embedded Linux: construct the tool of compiling, setting and compiling kernel, construct root file system, driver designing, application designing, construct testing tool and testing methods etc. So it studies every aspects of about the embedded OS in embedded applications. Finally, an embedded Linux OS in factual project is constructed to testing it, the projects is objected to construct a small radio monitoring system, it requires that the system uses embedded Linux; it takes one and half a hours to finish.Based on the study of using Linux in embedded application and the results of testing, we can conclude that Linux can be used in embedded application practically, not study period. To using embedded Linux can not only increase the flexibility about the selection of devices, and reduce the cost of products, shorten the developing, so promoting the advantage, but also to get the widest technical supports. But there are several disadvantages about using Linux in embedded application: Linux can't satisfy the real time application, there isn't very mature integrate developing toolkit, it require advanced technique, and it isn't more mature and steady than other commercial embedded OS.
