Since 1980's, fiber communication technology has been applied in the communication network in a large scale. It has become the main way of transmission owing to its low price and fine characteristic of bandwith. The main transmission media of SONET/SDH is fiber. SDH is developed with optical networks and has become the main hierarchy of today's transmission network. SDH possesses the unified network node interface (NNI) and standardized information class structure in the world. SDH can be compatible with PDH. It makes all the transmission network systems can communicate with each other on the level of STM-N.The design and realization of the hardware and software of STM-1 module and DS3 module in the project of"the specific demultiplexer of SDH"is researched in this dissertation. STM-1 and DS3 signal can be added and droped into STM-16 signal in these two modules. STM-16 and STM-1 signals are transmitted from optical interface. DS3 signal is transmitted from electronic interface.In this dissertation, the principle of SDH is introduced at first. Then the function of"the specific demultiplexer of SDH"is analyzed. After confirming the logic function blocks, the hardware architecture and the STM-1 module and DS3 module are designed. The 4th chapter is the emphasis of this dissertation, with its content of schematic, signal integrity analysis and high speed PCB design. The design of device driver of PM5320 is introduced in the 5th chapter. The 6th chapter is also the emphasis include the content of method, setting and result of the test.In order to reduce the cost and cubage, the realization method of"the specific demultiplexer of SDH"is difference from other SDH facilities. So it can be applied in some situation. Today many access network facilities have STM-1 optical interface. So this dissertation is helpful to design the STM-1 module of access network facilities. DS3 signal is used to transmit vedio information. In our country, SDH network will also be used to transmit Digital TV signal. So the facility to connect the DS3 signal and SDH network is needful. A way to design the DS3 module is gived out in this dissertation. Furthermore, there are little literature about DS3 module hardware design in our country.
