The research field of virtual reality has attracted a lot of interests in recent years, and virtual surgery is the most important application of it in medical field. Virtual surgery can be used in many situations, such as simulating the process of surgery to increase the success probability and decrease the cost of surgery. The thesis segments adjoining humanclip image of oral cavity and reconstruct the 3D models of some organs in oral cavity. And by cutting the 3D model of mandible to simulate simple surgery and see over the inner structures of mandible. Main research work in the thesis are:Image Segmentation: First the paper researches Level Set method and Active Contour method, And Gradient Vector Flow(GVF) Snake is weightily researched. GVF Snake is first applied to segmentation of humanclip image of oral cavity and receive accurate segmentation results. Then, according to the analogy of adjoining medical image, the method segments adjoining image that using the accurate segmentation results as initial contour can decrease the work of Image Segmentation and receive accurate segmentation results.3D Models Reconstruction: First, the theory of 3D Models Reconstruction is showed. And then the surface of some organs in oral cavity is constructed by triangulation method. The 3D model of some organs (mandible, parotid, masseter, etc)is given by using 400 slices of humunclip images(the granularity is 0.1mm) to construct the models.3D Models Cutting: the method of cutting 3D models by a plane is given. Then the 3D model of mandible is cut to simulate simple surgery, the 3D model of mandible after cutting is given.
