This paper is supported by the National 10th Five-Year Plan foundation and the research plan of Aviation support item—the research on Pilot Assistant Artificial Intelligent System (PAAIS). PAAIS uses the artificial intelligence and the advanced computation technology, which strengthens management of equipment and battlefield information and enhances the security, the survivability the fighter aircraft.Knowledge processing is the core question of PAAIS, knowledge representation and inference, the organization and the management of knowledge, and the verification of knowledge base are PAAIS's key questions, which are also the focal points of this paper.The main work of this paper is shown as follows.1) PAAIS's system structure and knowledge processing frame. The organization and the function of PAAIS are studied and PAAIS's structure is proposed. The knowledge processing frame of PAAIS is proposed, which divides the question into several sub-questions of different abstract levels through the blackboard frame and provides the inference structure for the question solution. Each knowledge source (KS) completes certain specific tasks. So the knowledge base of PAAIS is organized by all knowledge sources, which realizes the modular management of knowledge structure.2) Knowledge modeling based on fuzzy Petri net. PAAIS's fuzzy knowledge is modeled with fuzzy Petri net. According to the characteristic of FPN knowledge representation, a data-driven forward inference algorithm and a goal-driven backward inference algorithm of FPN are proposed. The weight-learning mechanism of FPN is also studied. A FPN knowledge modeling tool is developed.3) The verification technique of knowledge base in PAAIS. Firstly, the common consistent and complete errors in knowledge base are analyzed. Secondly, the verification algorithm of single knowledge base is proposed. According to the several domain knowledge bases in PAAIS, the verification algorithm of multi-knowledge bases is proposed.4) The design and realization of PAAIS's prototype system. The knowledge modeling subsystem based on FPN and verification subsystem of the knowledge base in PAAIS are developed. The overall frame of PAAIS's prototype system is designed, as well as the logical level and the interface standard among all subsystems. The prototype system assisting pilots for the decision-making in the flight combat has been initially established.
