With the fast economy development and the rapid population increase in our country, Land use dynamic monitoring lays the groundwork for protecting land, enhancing the management of resource and insuring the balance between land use and compensation. Remote sensing and Geometric Information Technology are very important tools for monitoring the changes of land use and detecting the change areas. This thesis gives a comprehensive explanation on the research situation of remote sensing and geographical information system monitoring on Land use at home and abroad. Expound the contents and significance of the research ,and systematically discusses the theories , methods and technology concerning land use monitoring. This thesis is fundamentally based on the remote sensing detection on land use of Weihai city .which is a sub-program on national land use monitoring initiated by the ministry of national land and resources , Based on Weihai city ,this paper analyzes the natural , social and economic conditions of land use,and explodes the technical basis , technical route , technical method and procedure of the dynamic detection on land use.Weihai city was selected as the study area. The land use of Weihai city has been greatly changed during the last decade. Based on two SPOT fusion images acquired in 2002 and 2004, cooperated with the time dimension concept, this study detected the land use change areas information through the feature change and differencing method. The change areas were extracted by using the method of threshold and human-computer interaction consequently. The information of dynamic change was extracted quickly, and the land use change was known. This paper also presents a method of setting up a land use dynamic monitoring database system, which can provide a scientific approach for promoting the sharing of monitoring information and results, realizing informational management of resources.
