In this paper, the Real-time monitoring system of running state of electric locomotives is studied and designed. Based on the satellite communication and GPS and GIS technology, this system traces and locates the running locomotives. It receives the running information and key parameters when malfunction occurs. And then, the ground monitor system analyses and processes these data and feeds them back to the monitor on locomotives which help drivers find out solutions. In the paper, this system resolved bi-directional communication between remote running locomotives and monitor system on the ground, and realized the Real-time monitoring on running locomotives which ensure the locomotives' security.Based on above-mentioned researches, the network architecture of ground monitor system, locomotive fault list, locomotive fault alarm, the function of query locomotive information and locomotive alarm and the whole system are realized. This system can provide the all kinds of information quickly and timely.Designed and realized the fault diagnosing expert system of electric locomotive based on rules, reverse consequence and breadth-first search. And this paper puts forward the open-shelf design method to construct the fault diagnosing expert system. This design realizes Real-time monitoring on different types of locomotive and different inner structures.The non Real-time data processing is brought forward. And the data exchange between binary files and database is realized which can both saved the storage space and improved the efficiency of the system.Based on analyzing the electronic circuits of SS7E locomotive mainly, fault trees have been set up in order to analyze and search fault. At the same time, a method to generate rough set-based logical rules to predigest many fault sources and its complex logic is brought forward, which enhances compatibility and maintainability of the system. A controller to locomotive circuits is added to the locomotive circuit system, which focuses on resolving the problem of checking the grounding point of the main circuits and assistant circuits.A layered software structure model is used to design the software for ground monitor system. The automatic fault checking mechanism, multi-thread technology, prototype technology and the object-oriented development method are all contribute to the Real-time performance and maintainability of the system.Trail operations show that this system can offer users practicable solutions to improve the working efficiency remarkably. This system is now being promoted successfully.
