Network multimedia surveillance systems integrate variety of multimedia information, interactivity of computers, and distribution of communication. Current network multimedia surveillance systems, however, have some problems, such as bad extensibility, bad cross-platform, bad adaptability, difficult management, high updating cost, and bad performance under the heavy load. Referring to media-streaming systems and adopting the technique of the components, we propose the structure of the network multimedia surveillance system based on the Browser/Server model in this paper. This structure is able to solve the above problems.Design pattern is a valid method to realize the software reuse for the design of the multimedia surveillance system. Utilizing design pattern and Component Object Model technique, the video display controls of the client is built, including the ActiveX controls of the real-time recording and replaying.Because of the unpredictability of bandwidth in Internet, the large magnitude of video data and real-time transmit request , how to adapt the various network bandwidths to assure vide quality is one of the key techniques which need to be solve for Internet based network multimedia surveillance system. Using KTP/RTCP protocol and video coding technique, the adaptive video delivering subsystem is implemented in this paper.
