MPEG-2 standard has been widely used in the fields of multimedia communication, digital television broadcasting and so on. How to employ the current CATV (Cable Television) networks to transport more and more television information becomes a problem.In order to solve this problem, we can employ the multiplexing technique to save the bandwidth. And it is surely an efficient way. One of the key techniques of the design for the Mutiplexer and Demutiplexer is the Program Special Information (PSI) processing. It includes the collection and reconstruction of PSI in the Mutiplexer and the analysis of PSI in the Demutiplexer. And it also includes the processing for Program Clock Reference (PCR). This dissertation mainly describes how to employ the technique of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) to implement the PSI processing. The main contents in this dissertation include: 1. Introducing the standard of MPEG-2 system layer syntax; 2. Describing the structure and relationship of PSI; 3. Introducing the theory and method of MPEG-2 TS (Transport Stream) multiplexing technique; 4. Discussing the implementation of the processing for PSI with FPGA in details. The design of this project is finished with VHDL and based on the device of Xilinx and its development system ISE5.2i.
