In this paper, the generalized transmission-line equations excited by an external electromagnetic field are derived based on exact electromagnetic theory in frequency domain. Firstly, the ponderance of the problem is pointed out. The investigations of some researchers have been compared. Then the derivations of traditional transmission-line equations are reviewed by some different methods. The non-zero terms of parameter matrix in the transmission-line equations are proved to be existed based on the theoretic derivation for the effects of discontinuity, radiation and higher modes of the lines. The hypothesis by Haase and Mei is proved. And taking the traditional transmission-line equations for example, the last equations are validated. Lastly, the propagation characteristics of lossy metal waveguides are researched by using the two-dimensional finite-difference frequency-domain method. In Chapter 1, the background and developments of the transmission-line equations excited by an external electromagnetic field in recent years are reviewed. The disadvantages and existent problems of the methods, which have been proposed, are analyzed based on the transmission-line approximation and field analysis methods. And the significance to solve the problem of field to line is analyzed. Lastly, the research contents and innovations are introduced. In Chapter 2, an arbitrary lossless transmission line is considered. The partial element equivalent circuit method and the derivation of traditional transmission-line equations by using the scattering theory are reviewed. Based on the exact electromagnetic theory, the generalized transmission-line equations in frequency-domain are derived. So the hypothesis by Haase and Mei is proved based on the theory. In Chapter 3, the parallel planar transmission-line as a special example is...
