A study on electromagnetic interferences is imminent as it becomes more and more serious. There are too many individual components with an enormous number of interconnections. Thecorresponding numbers of variables and equations make it very difficult to get simple insights intohow to control the system performance in an electromagnetic environment. C E Baum proposed theconcepts of electromagnetic topology and BLT equations with T K Liu and F M Tesche to solve thisproblem. In this thesis, the main work can be summarized as the following several parts:In the first part, the electromagnetic topology theory is described, and electromagnetic shieldingtopology graphs for complex system is constructed to describe the process of energy transferringbetween systems. The process of constructing the BLT equations is also introduced. An example isgiven to test the BLT equations. In the second part, a method of constructing BLT equations for transmission line networks isdescribed. Then, a new method of ranking the scattering supermatrix is given in this thesis. Thismethod overcomes the shortcomings of manual operations. In the third part, casting the BLT equation into an equivalent time domain form in which theinverse of the matrix in frequency domain form is expanded in a geometric series, and the solutionis expressed in terms of convolution operations. Finally, the transient-BLT solution is extended tothe case of transmission line networks.
