This paper is a part of one project that came from the No.14h Research Instituteof China Electronics Technology Group Corporation. The purpose is to design a LOworking in Ku band for 8-millimeter-wave receiver. The subject has been realizedwith digital divided PLL technology, phase frequency detect and divider are designedwith digital circuits while filter,VCO and others are designed with analogy circuits.At fist, we review the basic of phase lock loop,its constituent part,its linear modeland its noise. After that the principle of VCO circuit and its simulation method wasintroduced while the theoretical design method of VCO was introduced, especially themethod that used ADS to design VCO was introduced in detail, moreover, the resultsof ADS simulation and real test of VCO was provided. Finally introduced the digitaldivided PLL frequency synthesizer that is in core of digital phase frequencydetector-ADF4252, and presented the usual realizable project of frequency synthesizerand the design of LP and direct coupler while summarized the other technical questionin experiment and its resolvent. The main contributions and creative points of thisdissertation are as follows: (1).The VCO circuit topology of common grid wasanalyzed theoretically, and presented a theoretical design method; (2). The VCOcircuit of common grid was simulated and opitimized with ADS, and introduced arealizable design method based on software; (3). The digital divided PLL frequencysynthesizer was realized at Ku band, and recived a more higher signal power; (4). Theresults of ADS simulation and test of VCO was analyzed, and represented the reasonof error and the question that must be paid attention to. The digital divided PLLfrequency synthesizer has the merits of simple-configuration,high-dependability,easy-integration,small-cubage and multifunction. The most importance is the quitelow cost and a high performance.
