With the significant development of sensor, optics and remote sensing technology, the multi-sensor remote sensing images' pyramid is composed of the multilayer, multi-resolution remote sensing images of the same scene taken at different times, from different viewpoints and/or angles, by different sensors. The complementary and worthy information can be extracted from these data sets by image registration, image fusion, pattern recognition and GIS technology and so on. We can be more momently in control of the environment of the war field and make better use of our high tech weapons by using these information. Image registration and image fusion are in-depth and detailed studied in this paper. Image registration is the process of overlying two or more images of the same scene taken at different times, from different viewpoints, and/or by different sensors. Fusion of images can be defined as the process of combining two or more source images into a single composite image with extended information content.Recently, most methods used in image registration are not robust to rotation of an image and are low in computation efficiency. In the course of image registration studied, we propose an image registration method based on wavelet transform. In our method, at first, the image's edge feature points are extracted using wavelet transform and a pyramid data structure is formed at the same time. Secondly, we measure the registration image's rotation angle relative to the standard image by computing the angle correlation coefficients of the pyramid upper layer data and obtain the initial values using multi-scale matching and across iterative correlation. Finally, we register the input image with the reference image. Experimental results show that the modified algorithm performs well and can be applied in many fields.In the course of image fusion studied, two image fusion methods are provided according to the merits and shortcomings of the traditional image fusion methods. One is the image fusion method based on PCA transform and wavelet packet transform, the other is the image fusion method based on IHS transform and wavelet packet transform. The experiment results indicate that the performance of new methods are better than the performance of other methods. The new methods not only enhance spatial detail information of the fused image largely, but also preserve spectral information of the original multi-spectral image well.In future, the more timely, effective, precise and credible information can be obtained in the different fields by image registration and fusion research projects, which has gained much importance and will contribute much to every field.
