In recent years, as the availability of remote sensing image of varying resolutionhas increased. Merging images of different spatial resolution has become a significantoperation in the filed of digital remote sensing. What the mufti-sourceremotely-sensed image fusion technique study is how to use the image originatingform different kinds of sensors synthetically, and achieve a new image with moreprecise, more abundant information through a certain algorithm.Firstly, this paper presented what is remote sensing image, the conception ofremote sensing image fusion and the development situation in the national andinter-national. Aiming at the problem which the original image will affect the qualityof the fusing image so this paper gives the image pretreated processes such as:geometry emendation, remove noise and image registration. Secondly this paperdeeply discusses several classical methods of pixel level as follows:Intensity-Hue-Saturation transform, wavelet transform etc. Then discussed somefusion algorithms based on the HIS transform, and found out the best HIS fusionmodel according to the experiment results; discussed some fusion algorithms basedon the wavelet transform, and studied the choice of the wavelet basis anddecomposing level for the fusion algorithms; Discussed some fusion algorithmsbased on the wavelet packet transform. Based on the HIS transform and waveletpacket transform, a new image fusion algorithm aiming at protecting image's spectralcharacteristics is proposed. In this algorithm, the TM mufti-spectral image is firsttransformed from RGB system into the HIS system. Then the I component of the TMimage is fused with the SAR image using activity-level measured wavelet packetalgorithm to get a new fused I component. The fusion image can be obtained throughthe inverse HIS transform using the new I component, original H and S component.This scheme makes best use of the information in remote sensing images to be fusedand prevents the loss of image information. Through the experiment using SAR imageand TM image, all the spectral characteristics, and the spatial quality of image havebeen improved.Finally, aiming at the research actuality of evaluation methods on performance,referring to interrelated reference, this paper summarize the present methods for evaluate the fused image.
