At the juncture of social restructuring, China is making remarkable progress. However, concerns about problem related to the rapid development begin to emerge: such as increasing gap between the rich and the poor, employment rate and social welfare problems. Among them the problem of the "poor group" receives more and more attention. In the process of transforming the "poor group" to the "rich group" the mass media play a vital and indispensable role. Adopting the research method of content analysis, through sampling People Daily, The China Youth and Jiangxi Daily, this paper looks at the degree of attention given to the "poor group" in mass media reporting since the middle of the 1980s and comes up with some analyses and proposals that are likely to improve such reporting for the future.
