The main object of the current paper is to realize the designationof a kind of wireless POS. For this task, technology and knowledge ofwireless transmitting with GPRS, designing on 32 bit microprocessor ARMand developing on the platform of embedded Linux are required as the base.As the crucial step of developing from current GSM network into the thirdgeneration wireless network, the progress in the development of GPRS ismade rapidly in recent years. Embeded system design on ARM and trimmedkernel Linux is also a widely used technology in this field. The resultof the project wirless POS plays important role in the tacktics of thenation's information industry development.The paper devote to how to trim the Linux kernel, develop the hardwarebase on Samsung's S3C4510B, add GPRS communication module and design theapplication program. The details include selecting software and hardwareplatform, developing hardware, designing GPRS communication module,setting down the communication protocols, making out the scheme ofpowerfail safeguard, trimming the operating system kernel, developing thedrives and application program etc.Main esperience and thinking of embedded system design draw from thepractise is also show in the paper.
