With the extensive adoption of the Ethernet technology,a lot of swithers in the access layer are greatly required, which needs extreme management and maintenance and also a number of IP address are sure to be allocated. No doubt it brings unbearable waste of IP address in the circumatance of IP scarity. So a uniform method of management and maintenance, that is,the group management technology in imminently expected to tackle such problem. Nowdays the telecommunication companies all over the world pay more and more attention to the research and development of the group management technology and also provide various kinds of solutions. However,it is obvious thea those solutions can not meet all functions or form a whole system. Moreover, the packet's format of these protocols is not compatible, which leads to a serious problem that the devices by different provider can not conduct mutual communication and management. Thus, the Ministry of Information called for the serval famous national communication companies to establish the relative specification of the group management technology. After researching the specification, this paper absorbs the merits, analyzes the weakness in detail and makes some modification. The Contents is followed: Firstly, the group management function depend on the implemention of the topolopy discovery and topology collection in ,it cause parallel expansion of the programme become very difficult, program development time become longer and develop become more hard. Group Management part adopt diverse way from draft and shape singly ZGMP. It cause group management function don't depend on topology discovery and collection any longer. Secondly, some low profile Ethernet devices that can not support IGMP and IGMP SNOOPING can not support the group management protocols. Considering...
