Streaming multimedia technology is the mayor method to release media over the rapidly growing Internet. In an unbelievable speed, Streaming multimedia stands for the trend of Internet application and takes the important shares of Internet market with its special fascination. Seen as promiseful, it is being the studying hotspot and innovates the whole Internet makeup. After successes in Bride Band Net market, men pay attentions to novel Streaming multimedia technologies through the wireless net. It must be the first-line data applications within 3G networks. The MPEG-4 standard explores every possibility of the digital environment. MPEG-4 promises compact-disk quality at extremely low data rates; and the multimedia content could even adjust itself to suit the transmission rate and quality. It has been the mainly media standard for transmitting multimedia in current and next generation network. It's meaningful that we study MPEG-4 multimedia transmission. This paper is based on a multimedia component in a software development system for PDA. At the first it's an introduction of the PDA development system and its interface for components. The second part is about the MPEG-4 standard and its CODEC: Xvid. And then, I designed a transmission system built on RTP/RTCP protocol. At last there is a video player based on MiniGUI, which is running on embedded Linux.
