Transaction Processing is a key technology to ensure consistence and reliability in information systems. At present, the most frequently used flat transactions are atomic operation sequences with the characteristics of ACID (atomicity, consistency, isolation and durability). However the flat transactions have shortcomings in supporting long-lived transactions and the flat transactions cannot provide sufficient supports for its applications with complex business processes.Workflow is a management process which can be entirely or partly automatic operated. Combining the merits of the transaction processing and the workflow, transactional workflow can transfer one consistent state to another.Transactional workflow technology is promising in distributed applications, while it does not draw enough attentions from the researchers until recently. Furthermore, there is no study which can provide sufficient exploration in the fields of modeling, transaction processing, architectonics, realization technology and application integration until now. In consequence, the present study attempts to provide some workable solutions to the problems mentioned above.Based on extended transaction models Saga and Flexible, we propose a reliable transactional workflow model named WfSaga which can be adopted in distributed applications. We bring in replaceable transactions and characterless transactions into WfSaga and borrow the traditional transaction idea "Savepoints". We also design arithmetic of compensating transaction compute and reverse compensating workflow creating which can be applied in WfSaga. In terms of Java graphics technology, we design graphical modeling tools and attempt to describe this model by using process-defined language based on XML.With WfSaga model as the theoretical basis, we construct operation services of distributed transactional workflow by means of employing the distributed computing flat J2EE. This thesis also makes an exploration to the distributed architectonics of the operation services and its compatible technology to recovery...
