In recent years, many novel high-speed transmission andswitching technologies, such as optical circuit switching (OCS), opticalpacket switching (OPS) and optical burst switching (OBS), have beenproposed. Among them, OBS is the most promising ones since itcombines the advantages of OPS and OCS. Therefore, OBS is attractingmore and more attentions of many researchers and institutes, andcurrently is regarded as a perfect backbone networking technology for thenext-generation Internet. As a low layer transmission technology, OBS carries many kindsof high layer applications. It is very important for OBS network to beefficiently managed if it is widely applied ultimately. However, OBSnetwork is still an experimental stage, so the study of OBS networkmanagement is a research stage.Nowadays, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is themost popular network management protocol, which implement is easilyand which can run on many kinds of equipments. This thesis bringsforward an economical solution to the OBS network managing systembased upon SNMP, which includes two parts: Network ManagementSystem, and Proxy Agent. Through RS232 interface, the Proxy Agent canmonitor local components, and through SNMP, the Network ManagementSystem exchanges information with the Proxy Agent , by which way itachieves remote management. The thesis makes a thorough analysis onthe overall OBS network management platform system and on this base, designs emulation programs of OBS Proxy Agent and provides theprocedure of agent software, in which it presents numerous C codes ofhigh reference value.During the development of OBS agent software, the agent basedon embedded operation system uClinux and the sub-agent based on...
