The Research Of Network Management Agent Technology Based On OmniStar

With a variety of network devices and access technologies widely used in cabletelevision networks(CATV), comprehensive monitoring of the cable network equipmentincreasingly demanding.Because of inchoate cable network equipments (e.g. OmniStaroptical transmission platform) only supports proximal serial communication anddifficult to achieve remote monitoring and management, the equipment’s networkmaintenance and management inconvenience.Therefore, the with remote real-timemonitoring capabilities network management agent system was designed, and it was animportant step towards cable television network management equipment.Based on the needs of OmniStar platform network management agent, thehardware and software of the network management agent system were designed in thispaper.Designed and implemented the network management proxy server based onARM-S3C2416with15serial ports on hardware, the network management proxy servercan control75units OmniStar platforms at most, using combination of series andparallel therefore reduces project operating costs and saves occupied space.Onsoftware, the network management agent system is designed based on the researchSNMP,they include by analyzing serial communication with OmniStar platform and thefront control software(HCS), OmniStar platform serial and parallel communicationprotocol were analyzed;through multi-process synchronization and mutual exclusiontechnology, achieved information polling module parameters responsible for pollingchassis data and finding alarms;to ensure the data storage and retrieval rate designmemory database module in embedded kernel;to achieve OmniStar platform’s protocolconversion and SNMP packets encapsulated design Agent proxy module.In addition,network management agent system also enables local management interface(CLI), andremote version maintenance, and FTP download updates and other functions.Finally, the network management agent system was tested to use networkmanagement software.On the one hand network management agent system can collectOmniStar platform parameters and alarm information, and encapsulated into SNMPresponse packet, and submitted to the management station.On the other network management agent system can resolve network management requests from amanagement station, and send the serial communication to OmniStar platform byprotocol conversion, and collect data and configurate parameters.The results show thatnetwork management agent system can remotely monitor and manage cable networkequipments.
