Ballast, The Controller Chip Of A Smart Research And Design | | Posted on:2006-01-20 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:F Zhu | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2208360152490768 | Subject:Circuits and Systems | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | As the Power Saving and Environmental Protection become the common understanding for today's community, to develop the intelligent Ballast Controller IC featuring power saving, power factor improving and lamp life prolonging has attracted more attentions from the researcher and engineers working in the area of power electronics and modern integrated circuit design.Although many protection functions are integrated into today's common Ballast Controller, it is still difficult for them to track and control the whole operation procedure of ballast circuit accurately; and its working parameter setting usually depends on the external components. These drawbacks show that the lack of communication capability with algorithm modules (like DSP) makes it difficult for Ballast controller to work with processor to process data and track circuit operation instantaneously, which limits the performance improving of IC's as well as its upgrading.To resolve this problem, new Ballast Controller has been defined and designed according to the new configuration: single chip algorithm module+ Intelligent Ballast Controller (IBC), which was expected to improve the system performance obviously at acceptable cost. The new chip imports a SAR ADC to ensure IBC's smooth collaboration with algorithm module and realization of dynamical control. It is worthy to point out that ADC was elaborately optimized by improving the switch sequence of DAC capacitance array and it was a highlight of this thesis.The main innovative points of this dissertation are: new function blocks and ports were added in IBC according to new design scheme. For SAR ADC, the switch sequence of DAC capacitance array was also optimized with the new "INL Bounded" algorithm, which directly enables IBC to instantaneously collect external circuit data. Additionally, system parameters are easy to programmable configured and many intelligent function are included.Based on above ideas, internationally advanced smart power and mixed signal design environment was implemented in circuit design. Author designed the whole new Intelligent Ballast Controller after referring recent research achievements.
