Position Sensitive Detector (PSD) is a photoelectric device utilizing the lateral photoelectric effect. PSD has the advantages such as higher resolution, fast response speed and simple peripheral circuit and is suitable for the precise measurement of position,distance,displace,angle and other relevant physical variable.In the first section, the recent domestic and overseas R&D and application conditions and the traditional theory about PSD are introduced.Based on these calculations, it is founded that the delay time when the electrode begin to response is positively related with the distance between the position where excitations illuminated and the geometrical center of 1D PSD. it is also pointed out that when utilized in high speed transient detection, the upper limit of exciting beam modulation rate is l/(3.75Tc).Finally,the conclusion that PSD' position response is barycenter of the excitation beams and not related with the shape and the duration of the excitations is confirmed.It is qute necessary to find out how PSD configuration will affect PSD wavelength responsibility because PSD is a kind of wavelength-sensitive photn-electronic device which is limited by quantum effect.In this paper, the influence of all layers'depth of PSD PN junction and its surfacereflectivity to wavelength responsibility is deeply studied to offer guidance to design and optimize PSD for some specified applications.Linearity is one of the key characteristic and is studied in the following section using electric simulation software and the PSD boundery resistance, load and surface diffluent resistance are considered.In the next section, the work of 4x4 PSD array designing and fabrication is introduced and the dark current, reverse voltage, photosensitivity, response time are tested. Theresults show a good linearity ,a response time about 8ns and the dark current and reverse voltage in well control. The device is very suitable for fast response multi-object detecting.In order to rise the testing efficiency and re- repetition and release hurman resource, a PSD auto-testing system is introduced in last section. The auto-testing is realized via PC, AD data collecting card and stepper.
