The rapid development of the computer-centered internet and multi-media technologies is fundamentally changing our ways of work, association and life and, in the meanwhile, it's deeply influencing our education: on the one hand, it poses new requirements for education; on the other hand, it energizes the education, and makes a great leap forward in this field. It's obvious that modern distance education accompanied by internet and multimedia technologies symbols the direction, trend and future of education technology development."Education platform" developed by Tianjin Institute of technology (TIT) is a computer system just following the above tendency. The system makes an important part of the Sino-Euro International Co-operation project "Multi-Pole Training Center, MTC", which is one of the information and communication projects co-sponsored by EU and Chinese Government . I 'm honored to be a member of the project, which gave me the opportunity to make good practice in the field of distance education platform design and development. The platform covers teaching, learning, testing and teaching affairs management, involving a large amount of diversified, closely-related data organized in a complicated way.This thesis analyzes education technology, esp. the development and current conditions of distance education both home and abroad, and it probes modes of distant education as well as major skills employed in distance education platform. Also in the thesis, the distance education platform system of TIT is given as an example to show the framework made up of distance education-related hardware and software and its chief function module. In charge of testing system module, I particularly elaborate on it and give concrete designs and realization steps. I compared traditional testing and on-line computer testing, probing the key problems such as generation of testing problems, setting papers with problems chosen at random, grading papers automatically, etc.The system employs J2EE three-tier based structure, which enables it to have distinguished quality of flexibility, currency and compatibility. The communication and the distribution of the transaction between client and database are realized by WRMS, so it is the key-technology of the three-tier structure. Accessing the database through the middleware makes the relative code doesn't depend on the particular database and its platform.
