Fingerprint identification is one of the most important biometric technology which has been paid amount of attentation.It is the significant part of individual authentication in the future.The Automated Fingerprint Identification System(AFIS) comprise four sub systems.Those are fingerprint capture sub system,fingerprint identification sub system ,fingerprint compression and storage sub system. The fingerprint identification sub system is the core section among them.It consists of fingerprint image processing , minutiae extraction, fingerprint classification and matching.We will discuss and do some research on the algorithm of fingerprint image processing and minutiae extraction in this paper.The content of this paper is as follows:Adopt fourier analysis method as our basic tool in the research of Fingerprint image processing. Discuss detailedly on the algorithm throughout fingerprint image processing which include normalization, estimate of local orientation field,estimate of local frequency field, oriented filtering and binarization.Discuss detailedly on the algorithm of minutiae extraction.Propose a algorithm on how to delete the false points exist at the edge of fingerprint image by using the values of local variance. We can process the holes of fingerprint together with the edge using the unitary method.I realize all the algorithm using MATLAB tool and show the form of organization of program files at the end of chapter 3 and chapter 4.I package the algorithm of fingerprint image processing with object-orien_ ted method in C++ and list the function descriptions in chapter 5. Experiments have been carried on the performance and time tests.We satisfied with the results.
