With the development of information technology, secure identity identification technology becomes the key problem in many systems. Traditional security systems based on token or IC card become fragile and cannot meet the demand of modern security system. So biometric technology is the most convenient and secure identity identification technology because of uniqueness and permanence of biometric character. Fingerprint identification is one of the most efficient biometric technologies. And it has been applied in many fields such as entrance-locking system, attendance terminal, e-commerce.This paper discusses the principles and process of fingerprint identification firstly. And then, it introduces the performance of capacitive fingerprint sensor MBF200. Together with the high performance 8-bit micro-controller DS89C420 and USB interface chip PDIUSBD12, the fingerprint image data acquisition and interface PC with USB are realized. The designation of hardware circuitry, the development of data acquisition program, USB firmware program, WDM driver program, and application program are also discussed in detailed.Finally, some algorithms of fingerprint identification including the enhancement of the fingerprint image, binarization, thinning and minutia extraction programs with Visual C++ are offered. And the fairly good research results of image process are obtained, and the preparations for the subsequent minutiae matching work are made.
