The system of dolly automatic locating for testing and measuring we described here is used to automatically test and measure in some specific physical environment . There are some precise instruments, and we hope they can test the experiments' environment where there is nobody and send the data back to the computer far away in real time. We designed a dolly to load these instruments, a sealed pipe 48 meters long leading to the experiment scene, an instrument to place the poly, a lifting instrument to raise or land the dolly and other mechanical parts. In this system the dolly must be able to move quickly and locate precisely in the pipe, and send its actual position to the computer accurately, which will be showed in the graphical interface immediately.Mainly there are three parts in the paper, the designing of hardware , the designing of the software and the designing of the mechanical parts. In the system, we choose closed loop control. The hardware parts include stepping motors, the drives of stepping motor, the controlling card of stepping motor, PCI Digital I/O card, rotary encoder and so on. The software is designed in the OS of Windows 2000, with Visual C++ 6.0. The main software technique includes multithreading, DLL and so on. It is able to provide simple graphical interface, data collecting in real time, and controlling the system to locate accurately. The mechanical parts of the system include the dolly, pipe, lifting instrument and others. In the designing, we choose the best designing options according to the system's requirement, cost, assembling easiness and the factor of the experiment's scene.The project relates to many field, including electricity, software, mechanism and other knowledge. This paper presents the designing process of the project in turn which is designing objective, designing guideline, design options, realization of each module and system's combined adjusting.
