Imperial Smelting Furnace (ISF) smelting process is a quite complex process. the traditional fault diagnosis methods generally need relative accurate mathematics model, so their applications come up against many drawbacks. So adopting artificial intelligence to this fault diagnosis system is an effective technique, by which advanced diagnosis theory and detection technology are combined into an implement for ISF conditions monitoring and fault diagnosis. The diagnostic result of the system is quite well.In this thesis, intelligent fault diagnosis system of Imperial Smelting Process is mainly discussed. The intelligent fault diagnostic system includes two parts-the early fault diagnosis method for technical process based on BP-Neural Network and the expert system. The fault diagnosis process is started by estimating the direction of the parameters we selected, the result-potential faults-is derived into the expert system with another set of parameters, the final diagnostic result is received by synthetically estimating of potential faults and the set of parameters. Neural Networks has strong adaptability during use because of its self-study function; expert system is relatively reliable and simple for reasoning, which can keep system running in real time, it's rules are easy to understand. The structure of the early fault diagnosis method for technical process based on BP-Neural Network and the expert system rules Base are emphasized in this thesis. In the implementary process, the faults and parameters which should be used are decided firstly, then the instantiation of every part of the system and diagnostic process are discussed in detail.The thesis is organized as follows. In chapter 1 the origin and significance of the subject is pointed out. The Imperial Smelting Process(ISP) and the research in field of fault diagnosis are briefly introduced. Chapter 2 introduces fault diagnosis theory and technology, including typical intelligent fault diagnosis system structure. Chapter 3 describes the design of ISP fault diagnosis system, the structure of the system is introduced detailedly. In chapter 4 the design is implemented step by step. Here the instantiation of every part of the system and diagnostic process are discussed in detail. Chapter 5 gives the software design and realization of ISP fault diagnosis system. At the end of the thesis, we summarize the whole research work.
