The concept of phased-array radars is critically dependant on the availability of compact and minimum weight, high performance and high reliability microwave T/R modules. Supported by institute 38 of CECT, a S-band miniaturize T/R module based on MCM technology is studied in this paper. The experiments identify that this T/R module has a good performance. At first, the principal and construction of T/R module for active phase-array radar is studied. Then, combining the experiment condition, the sub-circuits of T/R module is designed using proper technology: The low noise amplifier is designed using microstrip technology; By applying the theory of harmonic balance technique, the power amplifier is designed using microstrip and GaAs FET die; The limitor is designed using microstip and PIN diodes; Other sub-circuits such as SPDT switch, digital phase-shifter,digital attenuator, is realized using unsealed MMIC chips. Based on these sub-circuits, the T/R module is constructed on one base board except the high power amplifier. For the limit of experiment condition, common microwave-material board is adapted for the base board in the T/R module. In some degree the advantage of MCM technology is shown in this T/R module. |
