With the development of related technology in computer and mobile communication fileds, application of multimedia in mobile field has been focused on and moved from internet into mobile field in order to satisfy people in all aspects. MMS serve as the kernel module of information appliances, which support multimedia. As a critical technology in mobile field, there is little domestic research work about MMS. Foreign vendors have almost occupied the whole shares of MMS market. So it's urgent for us to master the MMS technology and produce our own MMS product.MMS may deliver multimedia data from one terminal to another. The content delivered includes MPEG-4/JPEG/GIF87/GIF89/GIF89A/MIDI/I-MELODY/AMR and TEXT media. MMS may send emails to a standard internet address and receive emails form internet mail server. The perspective is wide and work being done is to support all kinds of media such as stream media, bigger size, DRM and data security technology.MMS generally depends on WAP or HTTP programming model, this dissertation mainly analyze ,design and inplement MMS with WAP model.This dissertation detailedly illuminates the archtecture of MMS, function of entitys including MMS client ,MMS proxy relay and MMS server, model of interconnection between these entities and communication with other system such as email,sms and so on. The dissertation analyzes formats of all kinds of transaction between MMS client and MMS proxy relay, encapsulation of all sorts of MMS PDU and encoding/decoding of MMS SMIL script. MMS agent is interpreted and designed. Related technology is introduced such as Vcard/Vcalendar/Unicode charset and so on.MMS's implementation is based on DeltaOS,which is a embedded OS and DeltaGUI, which is an embedded graphic system and DeltaWAP. these are produced by CORETEK corporation. Performance of integrity system is very perfect. Critical technologies applied in this dissertation include zero copy, smart displaying technology, media foreseeing, module extention, parsing on downloading, saving power, data fusion and table optimization for Unicode charset translation.After enough tests and applications, the implementation has been ported in many information appliances.
