Abstract: Radar Altimeter's measurement of the altitude of an aircraft is based upon the measurement of the time elapsing between the transmission of an electromagnetic wave and its return after reflection by the ground. It measures the absolute altitude above ground. It has miscellaneous and military application, from ground level up to ever increasing altitudes. The good and bad of the signal processing methods determine the accuracy, today, different methods have emerged, especially the FFT, which can improve the accuracy of the signal processing.This paper is mainly about the design of a all-digital signal processor that adopted mature IP technology, field programmable SLSI (FPGA) and digitalized signal processing instead of conventional analog signal processing to assure the design with higher precision, higher accuracy, and compactness, the processor with higher reliability and stability, the algorithm with higher flexibility.This paper consists of two parts. The first part is about the concepts and actuation of radio altimeter, the principles of selecting system parameters, the detailed selection and the simulation results. The second part is about the hardware design of the system, the making of PCB, the all-round description of FPGA of VII series, and finally the principle of making PCB and the debugging of the circuit board. The main work in this paper is as follows:The design and verification of system scheme, the selection and simulation of main parameters.The hardware circuit design and selection of different devices, and the simulation of the hardware design.Making and debugging of the PCB.
