With the rapid growth of computing and network technology, the demand for network service has gone up quickly. As with the maturity of the wireless network technique, the increase of the product category, and the decrease of the product cost make the wireless network a significant development allover the world. In this paper the author, one of the main designers and the developers of Hunan Mobile WLAN System, gives a closer study and research for the whole procedures of the Hunan Mobile WLAN System. The paper discusses the basic theory of WLAN application, features and advantages of WLAN system. Based on the requirements of the Hunan WLAN system, the paper discusses and testifies the transmission models, the logical and the physical topologies of the WLAN networks, the assignment of the IP addresses, and the security schema for WLAN system. According to the study of the system, the paper describes the implementation of the system. Then the design and the implementation of the user authentication for the system and the design and the implementation of the billing schema for WLAN system have been studied. To improve the performance of the WLAN system, the paper describes a new approach and its design. In the new approach, it joins WLAN signal with GSM system, then use the GSM system to send WLAN signal out. The new approach has been implemented in a test site successfully. Its successful implementation illustrates that the new design is feasible and set the bases for more serious research of similar approaches. The paper also discusses the implementation, and the test procedures. It also describes the solutions for some problems in the implementation of the new approach. At the last, the paper describes the expectation of WLAN system.
