In this paper, a Smart-Antenna base receiver compatible with the W-CDMA standard is researched and designed. According to this standard, the up-link frequency band allocates from 1920MHz ~ 1980MHz, and the signal is modulated by QPSK schemes. Firstly the basic concepts and working principles of the Smart Antennas are presented, along with its research situation at home and aboard. Then this paper deals with the design and realization of the Smart-Antenna receiver system architecture. And the receiver is divided into four modules, including RF front-end module|, IF demodulation module, analog to digital conversion module and frequency synthesis module. In view of the importance of RF front-end circuits in the receiver system, the paper finally is focused on the analysis and design of the RF front-end circuits, including the design of low noise amplifier (LNA), microstrip filter and balanced mixer. All the circuits above are simulated individually using Ansoft Serenade, and the results are satisfying with the desired performance.
