With the rapid development of Internet, people request network communication has wider bandwidth and higher speed. The Internet based applications have also transferred from single services to integrated services, which provide the data, voice, image, and movie services to the consumers. Owing to its fast development and innate broadband nature, digital TV systems, especially CATV/HFC networks, are competitive candidates for broadband access networks, which meet the bandwidth requirements of convergence of video, voice and Internet data services. In this paper, we discuss a new technology of transmitting Internet data through HFC/CATV network. In this paper, Chapter 1 introduces the development of the computer network, gives an overview of HDTV. Then discusses the interactive operation through the CATV networks, especially the HFC access technology.Chapter 2 presents two reference models of network communication, each model's architecture and function. Then focus on several nuclear TCP/IP protocols. Then discusses several error control protocols, their characteristic realization arithmetics. At last, analyzes the main factors impact on network performance.Chapter 3 surveies the RTOS and its main evaluation points, illuminates some principles in analyzing and designing RTOS. Then focus on the RTOS-VxWorks and its kernel. It also talks about Nios SOPC system.Chapter 4 puts forward a new Ethernet/HFC network gateway to transmit Internet data through the CABLE. Provides two solutions each basing on MPC860 embedded system and Nios SOPC system, and gives their detail implementation.
