With the rapid development of computer network,the distributed real-lime applications pose high demands to the general purpose operating systerns,however,traditional design and function can not meet the requirement of new application, so it is necessary to improve the operating system. QoS has been widely used in network communication to meet the performance requirement of application in the environment of network . From the idea of Service-Based system design,the platform of distributed real-time computing is also need QoS. Non-functional requirement to real-time systems such as timeliness,reliability ,security and throughput can be classified to QoS requirement of application layer which are put forward by real-time application ,and the service provider is operating system . Up to now, the operating system layer has not been fully researched in supporting QoS, So, this dissertation chose Linux as the tool of implementing QoS guarantee in real-time scheduling and inter process communication on the basis of expanding existing Linux kernel and IPC mechanism .At last ,using QoS technology into the design and development of Fire Alarm and Control system. The dissertation has probed into the following main topics and gained some aehivements.Systematically researches the QoS requirement in a background of a typical real-time application and then specifies muli-dimension QoS pararneter.Finally,develops the QoS framework.Implements the QoS enforcement mechanism in the QoS framework to support real-time scheduling by chosing Linux system and extending its kernel. This dissertation has summarized its most important design style ,that is ,policy/mechanism separation in process management which being used as the basis of real-time scheduler with unmodified Linux applications.The dissertation has developed a named reserve object to share QoS between threatls and take advantage of application-specific QoS parameter.To support QoS requirement of the real-time application,distributes kernel events to servers,so the kernel can synchronise with other activities,and integrate with window management,X server,window manager etc.Implement the QoS mapping mechanism in the QoS framework by using a simple interface for quality of service management to map the application QoS parameter to system QoS parameter.Based on Fire Alarm and Control application,the dissertation has developed resource management modol and completed part of the model ,such as real-time scheduling and real-time IPC mechanism to meet the requirement of Fire Alarm and Control system .
