Firstly, there is a brief introduction of the research and development of the disciplines in close relation to power supply technology in this thesis. Then a review of the solutions for Power Factor Correction (PFC) is carried out. As an emphasis, Active Power Factor Correction (APFC) technology is discussed. The major advantages and disadvantages are highlighted. Two circuits, characterized by high Power Factor and low output voltage, are proposed. One is originated from the concept of charge pump, and the other functions in the same principle with so-called Buck-Boost circuits. Theoretical analysis and simulation are presented. Finally, the proposed Buck-Boost type circuit was implemented and tested. The experimental results are provided for verification.In the last chapter, a low-voltage power supply with lower cost is proposed, which may be an interesting option in cost-sensitive applications.
