Web-based tutoring is an important application of the Internet technology today. The application of web-based tutoring cause a profound change in the traditional mode of teaching, which takes teaching as its main goal. When applied properly, web-based tutoring can embody the new pedagogic thought, which "takes learning as its main goal, with teachers and students interactive". Many tertiary educational institutions both home and abroad have been doing considerable research and development work on the structuring and applied techniques of web-based tutoring systems, and new products have been turned out one after another. By analyzing the present-day web-based tutoring systems, this thesis points out the functional structuring of web-based tutoring systems, and makes an analysis and a discussion of the applied techniques of the 3-layer web-based tutoring sites. Based on the above-mentioned analysis, the thesis goes further by providing detailed descriptions of the designing, realizing techniques and creative techniques of the web-based tutoring station of Pengcheng University, developed by the author herself. By way of the evaluation and analysis of the performance of the web-based tutoring station, the thesis makes a thorough study on the web performance, and puts forward the basic measures to be taken to improve the service performance of the station.
