Embedded Database Technology Research

In post-pc age, mobile -computing, basic network equipments, electronic commerce and the reuse of software are regarded as the four most future-effecting techniques. Mobile- commerce has become the most forward-looking new topic of today. And digitization and networking has become the developing directions of electrical appliances. As the core technique of mobile- computing, mobile-commerce and informative electrical appliances, embedded database has become the hot spot of study in the field of database technology.Since embedded database management system often appears as the applications of embedded system, firstly the particularity of embedded systems, compared with classical computer systems, is thoroughly studied in the matter of hardware, operating system and applications. Then the concept, characteristic and popular system frame of embedded database management system are introduced. Today, with the rapid progress of embedded database technology, all kinds of embedded database products have become more and more popular in native and oversea appliance fields. In this paper, the system frame and functions of some of the most popular embedded database systems, such as Xiaojinling system, OpenBase Mini and Sybase SQL Anywhere Studio etc., are discussed. Further more, the advanced techniques of data synchronization, system customization and system micromation in the field of embedded database are analyzed.The author of this paper took part in the development of the embedded database management system based on PDA, and then finished this paper. In this paper, the functions, capability, system structure of this embedded database management system and the reality of the system are pinpointed. Those key techniques in the development of the system, including data synchronization, ODBC interface, the organization and management of data dictionary are further discussed.
