Virtual instrument is a new model of the instruments and causes a revolution in the field of the instruments. Among the virtual instrument, the VXIbus is the typical representative that experts profound influence on the field of instruments. This article is based on the development of messaged_based device Arbitrary Waveform Generator(AWG). Some pivotal technology including the design of a messaged_based interface circuit and the programme of instrument driver are discussed explicitly in the paper. And some idea and experience developed by the author in the course of debugging and testing the circuit are discussed.This thesis includes the hardware design of messaged_based interface,the realization of the word serial transfers,the translating of SCPI commands,the programme of AWG's instrument driver,the debugging work associated with functional circuit and soft panel and the testing of module compatibility based VXI bus,edc.At present, the technologies mentioned above have been applied to AWG module based VXI bus(ES14V21) of UESTC and other developing module based VXI bus.At the beginning of 2003,the project passed the ministry inspection .It proves that the design is feasible and successful.
