C / S And B / S Mixed-mode Information Systems Research And Development

With the development of information technology and network technology, the Information System has developed into the Network-Based Information System (NBIS). From the aspect of developing and running mode, there has been Host-terminal mode, File-server mode, Client/Server (C/S) mode and Browser/Server (B/S) mode in the modern Information System. And the successive emergence and substitution of the above four mode presents the networking developing trend of Information System.The C/S mode system has the disadvantages of high developing cost, complex software maintenance and difficult system migration, which make the fully utilizing of the manage system in the whole enterprise impossible, to say nothing of the usage in a broader scope. While the adoption of the B/S mode simplifies the developing of client software, however it raises the requirement for data security, and the function of complex windows for data exchanging is difficult to fulfill.On the basis of the comparison and discussion of the developing and running modes of all kinds of Information System, this paper is devoted to the study of key techniques of Information System in the research of "Graduate Education & Management Information System (GEMIS)". On the basis of the comparing and analyzing of the modes of Information System from the aspect of engineering practice, a novel C/S and B/S combined mode is presented. Different Database visiting methods in different information modes especially in the C/S and B/S combined mode are expatiated. The characteristics of PowerBuilder 8.0 and ASP script language are also introduced. The Database issue techniques of Information System in the B/S mode was researched, using ASP script. According to the characteristics of graduate education and management, the author sets up the GEMIS, using related knowledge of Information System, such as, Database design,Data pipeline, Database concurrency control, Datawindow design, applicationwindow design, etc. The GEMIS is successfully applied in the practice.This paper has significance theoretically and practically in the choosing of system mode and choosing of developing tools, in the reducing of the developing circle of Information System, in the improving of the life-circle and adaptability to the different management requirement, and in the improving of flexibility and security.
