| Nowadays GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) has expanded to all round the world, and has become the largest mobile radio communication system with the greatest number of users despite the fact that it is actually somewhat inferior to CDMA system in the area of digital communication. Therefore it would be of great significance to further explore and develop the GSM network as a communication medium as well as its increment operations, especially since the 2.5 G and 3G mobile communication system has not yet got large-scale practical application.Based on the discussion of various types of data transmission, this paper analyzes the constitution and structure of GSM system, describes principles and features of GSM data transmission, and examines in detail the transmission procedure of voice, data as well as short message. Several extended applications are also discussed on that basis. And a GSM-based Centralized Meter-Reading System is introduced with Siemens wireless modulation-demodulation module. A multi-functional GSM wireless transmission linker is designed and the software development of an ammeter management system with short message requisition function is introduced. |
