Photonic Crystals is an artificial periodic structure with the characteristic of band suppression, which is composed of one kind of material in which another kind of material is periodical ly distributed. The structure is very attractive because it can achieve a good characteristic of band-stop by itself without any other components. Thereby Photonic Crystals has been paid great attention by many fields in the world since the introducing of its concept in 1980s.Photonic Crystals' application to the microwave field is mainly studied using FDTD method in this paper. One is 1-D and 2~D PBG(Photonic Band-Gap) structure' s application to the microwave circuit, and the other is 2-D PBG structure' s application to the microwave active antenna. Microwave circuit with PBG structure can obtain a good characteristic of band-stop without any other components. And with this structure the radiation of harmonics are suppressed well in the microwave active antenna, so the affect of spurious radiation is drastically diminished. Further more, the surface wave also can be suppressed by the PBG structure, so the efficiency of antenna is increased, therefore the performance of antenna is improved. The two kinds of applications are discussed respectively by calculational method and experimental method, and the results are basically accordant.
