This thesis is about the fashion magazines-the major media of fashion. Fashion magazines emerged in latest 20 years in our country, and now they're developing so rapidly that a lot of investment for media is pouring into the establishment of new fashion magazines. But at the same tune, the disadvantage of present running system is uncovered, which restricts the fashion magazines from getting more professional and authoritative. This thesis aims to find where is the disadvantage and how to improve it.The first part is the exposition of the fashion media's function. The media has been the most powerful instrument to reflect and lead the social concept from the day it had appeared, which has the strong force of infiltration because it acts publicly and in high speed and single direction. The second half of this chapter emphasizes the function that magazines has made to the fashion culture and explains what's the unique merits of magazine different from other media as having unequivocal target reader, more professional, deep and elegant. Fashion magazine has kept being the most important T-stage of fashion during the past century. The last part of the chapter interprets how the society responses to the fashion media. Some questions are put forward in this part like why the magazines of fashionable life are more welcome than professional fashion magazines, what can magazines do for the fashion culture, and where's the direction of improvement.The second chapter is the exposition to the present status of the fashion magazine, which includes the administrative setups, the target directions, the influence to the fashion industry and the quality status of the fashion content. The fashion magazines of our country run hi various administrative setups for both historical reason and subjective reason, and which also affect the personal quality of fashion magazines. It must be resolved if the magazines need more development. At now, the fashion magazines of our country have classified into different directions by the different target reader. Mostly, the classification is decided on the age of majority of readers. The thesis provides the analysis about two kinds of major target readers. In the second part of this chapter, the actual function of fashion magazines is described from three respects: how the fashion magazines reflect the status of fashion industry, what's the influence has been made by magazines to the fashion market, and how magazines affect people's conception and idea about fashion. The last part points out some universal problem in the fashion content likethe apparentness of fashion report, deficient of fashion source and shortage of the pagelook.The third chapter is a comprehensive description about the whole operating process of fashion magazines, including the operation method and the involved staff and team of every step of editing and designing. The operation of the fashion magazines is different from most of the other kinds of magazines, the difference reflects as that the fashion magazines are more relative to the market and attach more importance to appearance and style, etc. And those problems and possible problems lying in the operation are pointed out at the same time such as the lack of close communication with the fashion design and market, and the overall working method that is not suitable for fashion magazines. The second part of this chapter interprets the operation of advertisement that is the major financial source of fashion magazines and puts forward a scheme to standardize the operation. The third part introduces the operation methods of some famous fashion magazines in the world including the structure of the editorial department and some outside equipment. The thesis also explains how to get the advance of time that is very important to fashion magazines, and tell their efforts to build a perfect public image.The forth chapter is the emphasis of the whole thesis and the final conclusion of all the studying and analysis.
