This paper includes six chapters. The first chapter points out the significance of web-based laboratory and its present status of development over the world. We divide the web-based laboratory system into two categories according to their execution environments and point out the necessary conditions to construct such a web-based laboratory.Chapter 2 introduces the base knowledge of process control ,the content and the goal of experiment of process control based on the system we want to construct .Chapter 3 analyzes the existing problems of using traditional method to construct such a system. It introduces two-tier computation mode-ClientlServer,multi-tier computation mode-Brower/Server , MicroSoft's COMIDCOM development architecture and the reasons why it is unfit for developing our system.Chapter 4 first introduces the base concepts of Agent Technology.Next it analyzes and designs the web-based laboratory by using Agent Technology from some aspects such as distributed-deal,software reuse,initiative,intelligence,nature-modeling. It represents in detail the realization of the two Agents of our system and the technology be used, including Socket, Activex Control and Communication Method between the computer and the controler---foxbro76 I through Rs-Com 485.At last it gives the database E-R Model and the structure of each table for managing the web-based laboratory. For further development of our research at chapter 5 we try to find a possible way to construct a web-based laboratory based on VR technology. It discusses the latest development of necessary technology to construct such a system and then give a model and function of each module of it .It also lists problems we will face to solve. At the end part of the paper is chapter 6 giving the manual of system we constructed.
