Networked Manufacturing is a new manufacturing idea generated in the 1990's. Its goal is to use the computer and network technologies, characteristics of manufacture and the developed integrated management theories to realize the digital, intelligent, networked, agile, integrated product design. irs an innovatory thinking that focuses on the enterprise development and collaboration in the future. The thesis discusses the architecture of the Networked Manufacturing Platform and one of its implementing technologies, which is the integrating of the product manufacturing information. In this area, the deep researches are evolved step by step about the expressing of product design information and process planning information. At first, a systematic survey of Networked Manufacturing research is given, including advanced manufacturing technologies, component based technology, standardization technology, and the tendency of manufacturing, and then the study objectives and contents of this thesis are presented. Secondly, when we discuss the architecture of the Networked Manufacturing Platform, we architect it as a web-based distributed application system. According to the different functions, the whole system is divided into four layers: user interface, page server, application server and data server. In the three key points, we select the Internet-based manufacturing information exchange technology as the content of this thesis. Base on the analysis of the Internet-based data exchange technology, we use XML to realize the manufacturing information exchange, and build Manufacturing Markup Language, MML. There are two kinds of data to describe a product product designing information and process planning information. We describe them in two different ways. As for the product designing information, we integrate the characteristics from STEP, which is widely used and accepted. We map the EXPRESS into XML, translate the STEP physical file into XML, and accomplish the descnption of this part of data. As for the process planning information, we must build the process plan model according to the theory of PSL and represent it using XML. Thirdly, a real part, walking beam, is shown as the example. It proves the feasibility and efficiency of the technology discussed in this thesis, which enables the manufacturing information exchange on the Networked Manufacturing Platform. Finally, this thesis makes a conclusion about Networked Manufacturing Platform and its development tendency in the future.
