Random pulse position modulation(RPPM) signal not only has good resolution of distance and velocity, but also has low probability of interception and strong properties of ECCM. Based on the definition of the average ambiguity function, the numerical expression of the average ambiguity function for the RPPM pulse doppler radar signal is derived in this dissertation. Moreover, theory of the random pulse position modulation and random binary phase-coded(RPPM & RBPC) pulse doppler is also discussed. From the point of view of the modulation of RPPM, chaotic signal with stochastic characteristics is introduced as its modulation, which has the good performance just like the random signal. A interception probability reduction theory by means of comparing the RPPM with constant PRI pulse sequence is also analysised in this paper, further more the strong properties of ECCM of the RPPM is discussed and analysised. Finally, based on the analysis of the stastistical characteristic of the range sidelobe(RSL) after the pulse compression accumulation of the RPPM PD radar, one method has been brought forward to decrease the RSL and increase the ratio of the mainlobe to the sidelobe using FFT and some simulations also have been acquired.
